Here are some of the more common questions which people ask about adoption and issues related to it.

Can a single man or woman adopt?

Yes. Family Care Society will accept applications from single people - both men and women

 

can a divorced person adopt ?

Yes. If you are a divorced person you can adopt and Family Care Society will accept your application.

 

Can unmarried couples adopt?

No. The law does not permit unmarried couples to make a joint application for adoption, However, one partner in an unmarried couple can adopt. The other partner could apply for a residence order

are there any age restriction?

The maximum age to make an application to adopt a baby under 1 year old is 38 years for each applicant at the time of application. To adopt an older child (older than 1 year) your age may remain an issue, but because of the many and varied needs of such children there is no fixed upper age limit

The minimum age is 21 Years

can I adopt if I already have children?

Yes. However there must be at least a two year age gap between the child/children you apply to adopt and any existing child of your family.
